Although sometimes I might not want to admit it, I have a ton of similarities with my mom. She is selfless and thrives by doing things for others. Because of this, she loves entertaining guests at our house. Ever since I was little, I can remember helping my mom set the table, cut flowers, and cook in preparation for dinner parties. She pays attention to the details, making sure that the napkins match the candles and the menu is impeccable. My dad takes the job of making sure there is wine to match the meal, always. It’s definitely not a bad thing that I have inherited this skill and love of entertaining.
I’m lucky enough to have an apartment that easily accommodates having friends over for drinks or dinner, and I have hosted birthday parties and book clubs galore. My latest gathering was a low-key girls night with two of my best friends, Sydney and Rebecca. They came over last Friday for a little grilling on my building’s roof terrace and wine. Unfortunately, Sydney has embarked on the Whole 30 (you go, girl!) so she couldn’t drink wine with us, but Rebecca and I were able to have a glass with our meal.
Our wine of choice was a Pinot Grigio by Torresella. I recently learned about the company when I was approached to try their wine and share my thoughts with you all. It paired great with our meal! This Pinot was definitely on the sweeter side but it was a great combination with our fresh grilled veggies and turkey zucchini burgers. To make things even better, Torresella practices sustainability! The company uses solar panels to power the vineyard, micro irrigation and lightweight glass for its packaging.
For the meal, we started with crackers and Extra Sharp Cheddar (none for Sydney sadly) and then grilled balsamic asparagus and Zucchini Turkey Burgers (<– definitely give that recipe a try!). Then, for dessert we grilled plain peaches, although I was dreaming about these peaches.
This girls night was so easy because we all chipped in to buy ingredients, went shopping together, and helped get everything ready for the grill. If your friends are up for lending a hand, I highly recommend you let them help because it is so much better than breaking your back by yourself. This relaxing girls night was just what I needed and I’m already planning my next get together!
Tell me: Do you love entertaining guests? What is your favorite thing meal or drink when you have friends over?
